Philosophy
No Man is an Island
While Harand Camp offers an intensive and immersive arts program, we have also been able to set ourselves apart by adhering to a philosophy of inclusion and a non-competitive spirit. We place a premium on social development and uphold the ideals of "No Man is an Island" in everything we do - from camp & cabin unity to our theater program -
giving EVERYONE the chance to be a STAR!
At Harand Camp we strive to provide our campers with all the fun, sports & companionship of camp life, while giving them the opportunity to mature emotionally as they learn to live with each other. Harand is home for campers of all religions, races, gender identities, sexual orientations & economic backgrounds. We believe that when children (and staff) of different backgrounds & creeds enjoy the camp experience together, living with one another under the ideals of "No Man is an Island," they are better equipped to live together in an ever-changing (and often confusing) world.
The entire camp has the opportunity to grow through social interaction, learn invaluable life lessons, gain greater understanding and form lifelong friendships.
We believe that through being on stage and gaining an appreciation for the arts, children will gain the confidence that will help them reach their potential in all areas of life. Our musicals are unique in that the lead roles are shared so everyone has their time in the spotlight as well as in the ensemble. Classes are taught in a non-competitive manner and children are encouraged to develop in many areas.
It is our hope that over the course of the summer, from rehearsals to our fabulous musical productions, campers will discover it is possible to achieve excellence without unnecessary competition.
